Begin
Place the iPod on a smooth and clean surface.
We’ll use a “black-stick”, a small teflon lever usually provided together with the spare battery.
It’s comfortable, but it isn’t necessary… we can go ahead also without the black-stick.

Opening iPod’s… pod
The black-stick could be not sufficient.
It could be useful to support it with a free cutter blade.

Opening iPod’s… pod
When we can stick the blade, we’ll use it as a lever.

Opening iPod’s… pod
Act on all the sides of the iPod, carefully.

The pod is opened
Pick up the pod carefully, we don’t want to break flat cables.
The hard drive is now exposed.

Free pod’s cover
Move it towards the upper part, without forcing cables.

Pick up the Hard Drive
The drive can be raised together with its gummy mechanical protection.

Remove Hard drive connector
By using the black-stick it’s easier…

Remove Hard drive connector
The connector has been removed.

Battery is now accessible
Once the Hard Drive has been removed we can unplug -carefully!- the battery.

Battery is now accessible
The battery can be replaced.
Temerary hot-spot: according to a urban legend sometimes it’s possible to get back to live a battery by applying higher tension short peaks.
The legend is right, but we must be very careful with it: use a car battery charger (not a starter!), apply brief (2-3 seconds) contacts and let it stay at least 10 seconds between contacts. Apply the contacts on battery terminals, below its isolated charge circuit on battery top.
And remeber to protect you eyes! The battery could explode!
Of course I strongly discourage such operation, do it at your own risk!

Close iPod’s pod
Follow the steps backwards, it’s easy.
